The Barrington 4th of July Parade Committee is pleased to announce the winners in this year’s essay contest. The contest was open to Barrington area schoolchildren, and entrants were asked to consider what the Village of Barrington might look like in 150 years – in 2165!

This year’s winners are:

Age 8-11: 

Rhea Banerjee of Lake Barrington. Rhea will be a 6th grader at Station Middle School.

Age 12-14:

Bradley Yu of South Barrington. Bradley will be an 8th grader at Prairie Middle School and his sponsoring teacher was Mr. William Bentley from Prairie.

The essay contest winners will each receive cash prizes courtesy of Harris Bank, be invited to ride in the 4th of July Parade, and have their winning essays included in the time capsule to be buried in the foundation of the newly renovated White House.

In addition, the Parade Committee is pleased to name the judges for this year’s parade:

  • David Nelson Supervisor, Cuba Township
  • Marty McLaughlin, President, Village of Barrington Hills
  • Nick Sauer, Lake County Board, District 17
  • Gene Dawson, Supervisor, Barrington Township
  • Kevin Richardson, President, Lake Barrington

Judges will evaluate each entry in the parade for creativity, theme, appearance, originality, patriotism and use of music. Honors will consist of:

  • Grand Prize: For best overall entry of a patriotic nature
  • Village President’s Award:  Entry that best depicts the parade’s theme, “Barrington Through the Decades”
  • Spirit of Barrington Award: Entry that best personifies hometown dedication, ingenuity, originality and community pride.

Awards will be announced at the conclusion of the event and will be distributed in the Brat Tent following the parade or delivered to recipients after the holiday weekend.
